Stories From The hEart

"This non-profit is the only way I know how to make a difference."

Evit Plowman was born November 24, 2021 at Children’s Hospital of Colorado after being diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Evit’s family was told his heart defect is the most severe defect that is compatible with life. He’d need 3-staged surgeries that won’t fix his heart but make it functional.

Evit is 18-months old and has had 2 of the 3 surgeries. Time between the 1st and 2nd surgery is often a critical time and for Evit, this was no exception. He had several complications resulting in numerous hospitalizations, procedures and an intubation. Luckily he recovered and had his second open-heart surgery April 2022. His family returned to Montana after they had been relocated for nearly 7-months. Evit is currently meeting all his milestones, has a smile that will light up a room and is a very loved little boy. Although Evit’s future is uncertain, we choose to have hope for a long, meaningful life.

Evit’s family was inspired to connect with more families and founded Montana Brave Hearts. Their mission is to give hope for the bravest of hearts. We are dedicated to supporting Montana families, increasing awareness and fundraising for research in hopes for a brighter future for those living with a complex congenital heart defect.
