HeartWorks Thanks the Nelson Family: A Tribute to the Charlie’s Champs Charity Softball Tournament

A family who fundraises for HeartWorks, Charlie's Champs

At HeartWorks, our mission is centered on building stronger hearts and more memories for individuals and families affected by congenital heart defects. Recently, we had the privilege of being the beneficiary of the inaugural Charlie’s Champs Charity Softball Tournament, organized with unwavering dedication by the Nelson family.

Matthew and Alisa Nelson, alongside their community of supporters, orchestrated a remarkable event in Burbank, California, to raise funds and awareness for our cause. Their motivation stemmed from their son Charlie’s journey with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a condition that has shaped their lives and inspired their commitment to supporting organizations like HeartWorks. Reflecting on the event’s success, Alisa Nelson expressed, “We are so in love with how our community, family, and friends have come together to support us in this exciting venture of raising awareness and funds for CHD and research by HeartWorks.”

“We are deeply moved and grateful to the Nelson family for their extraordinary efforts in organizing the tournament,” expressed Dr. Tim Nelson, CEO and Co-Founder of HeartWorks. “Their dedication to advancing research and supporting families impacted by congenital heart defects is truly inspiring.”

The success of the tournament, which far exceeded fundraising goals and brought together numerous teams and community members, underscores the power of collective action in driving meaningful change. The Nelsons’ initiative not only raised vital funds but also fostered a sense of community spirit and solidarity among participants and spectators alike.

“The generosity and enthusiasm displayed at the tournament reaffirm our belief in the importance of collaborative efforts in improving outcomes for those affected by congenital heart defects,” Dr. Tim Nelson continued. “Events like these not only raise funds but also shine a spotlight on the resilience and determination of families facing significant health challenges.”

HeartWorks extends its heartfelt gratitude to Matthew, Alisa, and everyone involved in making the Charlie’s Champs Charity Softball Tournament a resounding success. Support like this strengthens our resolve to continue advancing research, providing support, and advocating for individuals and families affected by congenital heart defects.
