“I’m confident that in the decade ahead, we will be able to rebuild hearts and cure congenital heart disease with this technology. It is laborious work but a labor of love for our patients and their families.” Tim Nelson, MD, PhD

From Skin Cells to Heart Cells: How HeartWorks Is Building Regenerative Therapies
HeartWorks was created to accelerate therapies for congenital heart disease by bringing research, manufacturing, and clinical care together under one mission. At HeartWorks, our regenerative medicine platform begins with something remarkably simple: a small skin biopsy.
Those cells are reprogrammed into stem cells, expanded in our manufacturing facility, and then transformed into bioengineered heart muscle cells – all using the patient’s own cells. The goal? To create therapies designed to strengthen hearts affected by congenital heart disease while minimizing the risk of immune rejection.
